A Manila Tradition; Billboard Club

Hands down my favorite city in Asia to chill for a weekend (outside of Bangkok of course, hey I LIVE here brothers!) is Manila. More specifically, Makati which is like a city within a city. Everything you could possibly need for a grand old time in high style is available for the asking and when you're finished your new local friend (s) will smile at you and say in that lovely Pinay accent "Thank you, Sir!"

There's no end of go go bars, clubs and brothels in Manila but best bet for a nightcap after dinner with the boss at the Makati Shangri-la's outstanding sushi bar, is to head for Burgos Street about a 20 minute cab ride away around the corner from Rockwell/Powerplant malls.

For anyone who frequents Hong Kong this is like a mini Wan Chai, 1 street long with a couple of dz locales of various qualities along 2 blocks or so....

By far the best talent all round (you'll get singing and dancing and pretty decent music at the club as well as the after hours kind) BILLBOARD is the place to make your final stop to pickup some take out sushi , )

It may take a bit of gentlemanly persuasion but many a night Ive landed myself a 2 for 1 special and have never left the place alone or disappointed. Philippines does however generally demand 'bar fines' or a house payout but its reasonable, about 20-35 bucks), the drinks aren't watered down, and they do go out of their way to recruit top talent. Still quite possible to be a big spender, buy a couple for the mama san and still spend less than 200 US for a night of debauchery!

ANOTHER WEEKEND IN HONG KONG: Once a month I've got to take the 2+ hour flight over to Hong Kong and report into the boss. This will inevitibly lead to an evening of heavy business negotiations over just who's expense account will pickup the tab for dinner at THE DIRTY DUCK (Bebek Bengil, a great indonesian place on Lockhart Road in the Wan Chai district) and more importantly, the client entertainment / drinking bill at NEPTUNE II.

As an international city and regional naughtiness hub for all things sweet, brown and lovely, WAN CHAI offers a great chance to enjoy lets say, a wide assortment of regional delights from the menu. We'll cover a few of our favorite HKG haunts over the coming weeks but essentially the best of the 20 something bars, pubs and go-go joints along Lockhart Road and adjoining side streets come down to 3 classics.

'Laguna' tends to be heavily visited by Indonesian girls on 'holiday' with a good dose of Pinays and local domestic helpers drinking their way to abandon every Sunday afternoon...

'Fenwick' is seriously dominated by the local Philippina mafia gals with a smattering of all others + a good bunch of Colombian girls who seem to have discovered their own SHANGRI LA in Asia...

and our hands down fav for a night out in Hong Kong, NEPTUNE II, definately the domain of lovely Thai sweeties of all shapes, shades and sizes. I also appreciate the much better served drinks, friendlier bar staff and the ability to use my VISA without paying the bar an additional 2 % 'commission' like some others insist on.

No cover, mixed drinks go for 4.50-7.50 US a pop, girls drink's are the same price as mens and its a very socialized atmosphere. Lots of dancing and flirting going on with a good mix of local naughty businessmen, visiting buyers and execs, sportsfans, ne'r do wells and a so so Philippino band.

As for 'apres dance' entertainment, HKG has pretty standard rates for girls in Wan Chai and the more upscale Lan Kwai Fong districts, of $HK 1000 or about $US 130. Time limits are generally not discussed or enforced except if you happen to like latina's.... seems the Colombian girls have some pretty strict rules and local handlers, which isnt true of the average SE Asian lady.

One of my favorite local haunts in town when senior level clients or visitors from the home office drop in, looking to catch a little upscale entertainment or eye candy with celebratory drinks etc etc. If you're in the mood for decent Italian food they have a good wine list and well rounded assortment of antipasti, fish and pasta dishes.

We'll usually book a table for 6-8 people on a thursday or friday night around 9PM, as the bar and dance floor with live band won't get started up until 11 o'clock at night. It gets a bit nuts especially around the serving bar side of the dance floor from midnight on as guys & gals jostle for drinks, fight their way through to the bathroom or just try to catch some hot eyes across the room and hot ass over a dirty martini!

The ladies here are polite, well dressed and even sophistocated at times if that's your fancy. The door is pretty good about who they let in and if you've happened to take a room upstairs at the Grand Hyatt, you'll not have far to go once you've met up with a date you;d like to have some private time with.

For dinner with wine and a few rounds of drinks for 4 people, about $US 50.00 pp will do you. For your Thai dessert everything's up to what you agree with her but a reasonable average for a few hours unravelling the hidden delights of Bangkok together should run around $US 75-100. Check the current Baht ex rates, currently that's about 2600-3600 Thai Baht...hey, you wanted upscale and this is just the crust of the truly up UP UP scale or what my current cutie calls " Hi-So" or high society girls. we'll save that for another post as I've got to get back poolside for my afternoon massage! ciao ciao!
